Tags :: §hitches
A foundational hitch, commonly tied around a vertical post.
It can be formed in a free-standing rope by grabbing the rope with two hands, and making a turn in each hand with the same chirality, then passing the "lower" turn over the "upper" turn. This can then be dropped over an open spar and pulled to tighten. There is a symmetry here with the §cow hitch, which can be tied in a similar manner.
Topologically identical to §two half hitches.
