square knot

Tags :: §knots

The square knot is one of the simplest and most widely applied knots in existence.

It is constructed by a §half knot followed by another half-knot on top.

Pay attention to the direction you wrap the half-knots with your right hand. You should wrap the first half-knot one way, and the second half-knot the other way. If you wrap the same way both times, you will mistakenly tie a §granny knot.

In Japanese this is known as 本結び (hon musubi) which roughly translates as "true knot" or "one knot".

A shoelace knot is a square knot tied with both ends §slipped.
